To the Navajo (Diné), the color red (łichxíí’) is reminiscent of the crimson earth of Diné bikeyah, the homeland between the four sacred mountains, and is revered. In their jewelry, red represents coral: the sacred shell worn by women to honor the blood of kinship and the life-giving waters of Mother Earth.
